Our Cast Choice

For our cast we needed 3 boys and one girl and this is now arranged, we have Gemma for the girl, Harry, Jack and David. Ruby organsied the cast as she knew of people who are in a band and each have their own instruments. our cast has come along nicely and is running pretty smoothly. This was important to find people that connected because our band story was about a group of friends who saw their interests in music. It would of been easy to tell on camera if they all looked very out of place and shy around each other, this would not of been good for our music video. It didn't take time for them to link together and make it look convincing . while shooting they all looked more comfortable when with their instruments as they were used to the feel and atmosphere of being together. and have the right movement whilst playing, which has become more successful as they don't look like they are pretending and just doing it for the camera it looks realistic works without fault.

Their instruments are very simple and they work well with the track. Harry is playing guitar and also a lead singer with Gemma. Jack plays the percussion and David is on Bass Guitar.

Rough Copy

We have now begun to shoot a bit of our music video, and are carefully trying to figure out the right locations and cast, To make further progress in it. So our rough draft gives us ideas of how our final product will look, and also gives us a chance to make any changes to shots in which we want to use, any areas in which we think will need reshooting and also any additional extras such as props or additional lighting. So far our rough cut is going well and we are pleased with it we just need to feel the gaps to get an estimated final draft. The rough cut will inspire us to make our video more professional as the rough cut is just a guidline and is a way of helping us to do better. The vieod looks unprofessionally filmed, as that is the idea in what we wish to connect to the public, as they are a new group and we want to push that feeling through using our music video. we also came up with the idea of using a grainy effect which we all liked as it also looks quite ammature and a few of our shots have come out like it already and we really like it, it presents the idea of a new band through the shot types, being quite dim, and filmed in a way that it looks quite dim, we like this effect as it looks as if another member of the band have filmed it like they are practice shots, or someone has just found their tape and have presented it to the world. So this is how it connects to film Cloverfeild that i researched earlier by using the hand-held camera and found video footage.

The music video is also very jumpy and looks like alot of experimentation. At the moment we do not have a narrative to our video, it looks like a band just practicing on a normal day. so there are a gaps in a few places but we wanted to get the studio shots at first but now we were are thinking of having our just two of our band members to create the narrative. So we are using Gemma and Harry to be in young love we want to make their romance as convincing has possible to draw our audience in also to make our video look professional to make our shots look effective and powerful. Were not sure when this going to be filmed. It is difficult to especially due to weather conditions as, we want our outside shots to be light and quite sunny, and as it is the middle of december we haven't yet received one of those days. We are going to carry on filming and hopefully catch a sunny day. which is doubtful in the middle of winter.

Magazine, Adverts

Magazine adverts is for new artists that have come into the music industry. Adverts provide help in the marketing business, within every advert the goal is to maximise audience, and also more profit. To create the right magazine advert you need to adress who your target audience will be, and for my group it will be mature teenagers to adults, so i would no who to address within my advert and whose eye to catch. also i would need to no what i would include within my advert and would need to think about this very carefully and not rush into it so that the wrong message is put across, i would display a hit song that i feel would appeal to my target audience and describe so interesting facts about the group to advertise them on a maximum level an make it an easier way for the fans to connect with our artist. We need to create as much interest as possible so our album were advertising will stand out from the rest. i would also maybe advertise websites in which audiences could view to get more of an insight to the band, get to no them before they make any decisions of a purchase for example MYspace and twitter are regular sites that teenagers visit, so those sites are the ones that i would promote my advert on. Many things are done digitally nowadays and many of the our target audience have grown up in a technology century everything is increasing, making things alot easier for them to get connected and download music. A magazine advert would promote my advert widely and be seen by many viewers. it would be national and be witnessed all over the country by many different viewers, which may start to appeal to even a different type of audience and some international fans, therefore increasing our profit for our artist.

Album Covers (Conventions)

Record Album covers are a way for artists or bands to sale their product also to sale themselves to the audience in society. album covers serve the purpose of advertising the musical contents on the LP, through the use of graphic design, photography,or illustration.They are all done in many different ways to catch to audiences eyes, and for each artist or and to have something unique about them that they can get noticed for. For example Blur use interesting photography for their album cover. A mix of light colours has been used and the graphic detail left simple. The image is inspired by the artist Andy Warhol and his famous paintings done in this technique. The animation gives the band an artistic style to them.

Has i mentioned before a use of text can also be used to create album covers. The Mystery Jets done this by using bright colours to display their band name. It make their CD stand out and because the text is also very large and the album name is very small. I would like my album cover to be similar to this only the use of text I'm not so sure about the image just yet, but since its not Mystery Jets first album their face doesn't need to be on the front to connect with the audience, and since were releasing our bands first album their identity is important to show the audience so they know who is in the band and what they look like.

This album caught my eye becuase i like the use of the graphic technique. The double image of the artist is different and you dont see it very often. It makes it very clear who the arist is and what they look like. The look is still very basic because the cover isnt over crowded and it uses just a plain background, which i want to use for my cover plain and simple but still very powerfull at the same time.

The purpose of an aulbum cover is to advertise its contents also the Artist. Using artistic designs and ideas to catch the audences eyes more if it was sitting on a shelf in a Music Store. Its good for it to be intresting and unique so it stands out more. Also, in the case of all types of records, it also serves as part of the protective sleeve.

Filming schedule

So far me and my group are supposed to be filmng, but due to weather conditions that is not possible. Our main idea of the video is set outside, where its supposed to be light, sunny and filled with rainbows bcause the charactes are in love with each other, but i doubt this will be happening since we are in Winter. Some of our scenes are to be filmed in school, but we have to work around the time of our cast, and what would be suitable for them. We may have to change our idea slightly and probly the idea of or storyboards too.

The band is originally from Wichita Falls in texas. The bands name was from a comedy act by Steve Martin. Bowling For soup is a punk/rock band but most of their music fits into our genre for or music video.

Research

So far we are concentrating on working on our Animatic for our music video. At the moment we need to include our music on to it and combine our storyboard with it. The animatic should be on here by the end of this week. Were hoping for our animatic to go in Sync with our main song for our music video. So for every time the tempo or beat changes the shot will change on our video. Were looking at research and ideas for our video at the moment, and researching into existing bands like the Arctic Monkeys and Kings of Leon because they sing at a similar genre to the Mystery jets. We only have a few ideas for special effects and one of our main ideas was to use an hand held camera so it looks shaky and homemade. I'm going to research onto what films or videos that use that type of effect.



Cloverfeild Trailer.

I found this movie which wasn't released not that long ago. Cloverfeid is completely made from a handheld camera effect. It looks from the persons point of view and sight, so were looking for this type of effect in our music video. Cloverfeild was released in 2008 and is an American monster movie. The whole Plot of Cloverfeild is that it is an American monster movie. Their is a attack on New York city when a group of small friends are celebrating a leaving party. On the night of the party everything starts to go wrong, and they see suspicious things happening outside their window, whilst people are running and screaming. One of the friends decided to record it for evidence for the future for if they didn't make it through. The whole idea of the film is for it to look like it was recovered from a digital camcorder months after the event, and was found in that area. The entire movie were performed by effects studios Double negative and Tippett Studio.

Columbia Records ( Independant Label )

Columbia Records is an independant American record label. Columbia Records was founded in 1888 Steve Barnett and Rick Rubin are the main co-heads of columbia records. Columbia records was one of the first to produce pre-recorded records by any genre of singers, musicians and groups. From 1961 to 1990 most of its records was distributed outside of the USA and Canada on the CBS records name before adopting the Columbia name in most of the world. Columbia records had no connection to Columbia pictures until 1989 they often used other record labels that they owned, Sony is also part of Columbia pictures.

Columbia was originally owned by Edward Easton in Washington D.C. It gets its name from District of Columbia which was its main headquarters building. Columbia diustributed commercial cylinders recordings of its own, and therfore only sold recordings of its own manufacture. Columbia started selling Disc records in 1901, which was produced by their Toy Graphophone which was only small cut version copies. During this early period Columbia thought of using Magical nothes for their logo, where this would never be changed. In 1912 Columbia only focused on distributing disc records.

Columbia records has become a music label for pop, Rck and soul genre Artists . Columbia records was sold off to CBS master records now ( SONY classical ). With the clash of Sony, Columbia was unsure what logo to use, so they signed off records with no label just Colubia printed on it. Nowadays they use the Walking Eye logo for their records. Columbia records is now signed with Epic records.

Michel Gondry ( Music Director )

Michel Gondry is a french director that does work for Music vidoes and Feature films. Michel Gondry is most famous for his wide imagery and storytelling teqniques. His films are more based on fantasy than reality. Which includes cartoon styled videos and motion picture films. He was a young artist that would often teach others in his class how to draw naked women. His Music video carrer kicked off when he met a pop star called Bork, who used Gondry for his video. The video became very popular and Bork used him for five more making Gondry even more famous.

Michel Gondry has also done commercials and finally launched his first feature film in 2001. Later on Gondry won an amount of awards, including the 2005 acamdemy award for best

original screen play.

Some of Michel Gondry's work includes his own original hand drawn images. He has a obbsession for fantasy type films and music videos, and often makes his own visual representation of fantasy chararcters.

Mood Board

This is a mood board for our group called, Fudge. On the mood board has all of our ideas that we done. It involves visual pictures and our storyline to give our audience clues about our Music Video. This is most of our ideas that we have come up with so far. Has a group it took us awhile to think of ideas that we all liked., so creating this has helped us alot. We are mainly looking at things for our inspiration. Were looking for a factory girl sort of style at the time being., Also the song is about young love so we also thought of small editing ideas, Maybe having a part of the video that looks like a flashback in the past.

The Inspiration

For our inspiration we are using Factory Girl. We are looking for this type of style for our leading girl. Style, crops and to the way she acts in the video. We chose this because it has a indie sort of style to it, and we believe it will fit in to our video idea.

Creation Of Music Act

Brief: My project in media is that we have two tasks to complete. One of our first tasks is to create a music video for an artist of our imagination we have to promote a band on the market, and our band must sell to a certain type of target audience. We also have to create a magazine and CD cover for our band. We have to use an existing piece of music for the Music video, so I'm looking to do planning and research throughout my process and documenting our every stage.

In our Music video we will be planning the layout from setting, costumes and shots will be from our own original ideas and planning. We aim to make our video has unique has possible and also look professional. We have to think of many creative ideas that hasn't been used before to create our Music video.


Name of Band : Fudge is a name that we chose because its meant to mean the grades they came out of school with at A level. The band will include four members, Three male singers and one female singer.

Background: The band is made up of a group of friends that had been through school together and have known each other for a few years. They noticed their love for Music and created a bond with it. They started small, playing in small venues in their hometown and small bars and clubs but never had their big break. They have finally got noticed by a record label, who noticed their popularity through my space, Twitter and other social networking sites. They looking to release their first ever single.

Ideologies: All of the band have a special connection through music and they feel that music can bring them closer together and make their bond stronger. They believe music is way of expressing yourself. The band has also participated in charity work and community events, eg. battle of the bands.

Image: Fudge is a small Indie band of a group of friends. They are all from different parts of England but got brought together through school, they also know each other quite well. Their dress sense is unique skinny jeans and they like bright colours and cheque shirts that make them stand out from any other band. Their aim is to be different not just with style but with music and lyrics. They only want to produce music using their musical instruments from Guitar to keyboards. They don't want to rely on backup, so they sound better when performing live.

Case Study ( Artist Research )

I decided to research Keri Hilson has my artist. I chose Keri Hilson because i like her music and her recent album which was released.

keri Hilson is a an Rnb, American recording artist signed to Zone 4 and interscope records.
Keri Lynn Hilson was born 1982 in Georgia aged 26-27. Hilson studied Piano and singing before she joined a small girl group called ' D'Signe ' when she was just 14. She bacame a backstage singer and songwritter in high-school and she attended Emory University where she studied and Majored in Theater .

She's only just making music in the UK but most of her work has been done in America. She started her work by doing song writting for other Artist's like Britney Spears, Usher and Ciara. Keri hilson was back stage singer for most of her carrer and appearing in videos in 2007 to 2008. Her Carrer really kicked off when she started with Producer Timbaland, where she apperaed in the song ' The way I Are' an that song made number 3 in the charts. in the U.S. Shortly after keri Hilson played a part in Usher's video, ' Love in this club' , has well has writting the remix for it. She has now become a solo artist carreer in 2009 releasing her new album ' In a Perfect World'. It was realeased March 24th 2009. The aulbum includes the recent hit singles ' Knock you down' and 'Energy'. The aulbum hit the billboards in the U.S placed at number 4 in the charts, And number 1 on the top Rnb aulbums in the U.K.

Back To Work

My first post on my new blog =] . its been awhile lol
i already have a task that i have to post on here soon when i get the bits for it.
But so far we have been given a task to create a Music Video for a band and so far we have come up with a few ideas in class today. We made a mood board for it which isnt complete yet but will be soon, and il post it on here to show what we have thought of. We have named our group Fudge and we also have a song for our Music Video. Young Love - by the Mystery Jets.




I like the style of this video since it is very different. Its very simple exsample the white background and the setting doesn't change often. The video is also flat based it is not 3dBut yet it works well. The artists dont move much either only up and down when being pushed by people in white suits. only their lips seem to move and their hands when pretending to play the instrument. Their all dressed pretty causual like their just practising somewhere. But they do use other colours in the video. The bright coloured letters that come up in sync to the artist singing.
